if not here, then where

Plaid jacket and polka dot pants.  Too much?  Maybe.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this was not a safe combination.  Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but around here, it definitely got some looks.  I can't tell you how many times I've heard friends and aquaintances talk about clothing styles and trends that they just could never wear around here.  As if a small town warrants no style.  Or that somehow, their fashion risks may turn them into social outcasts.  While I can certainly understand the sentiment, I can't say I identify.

Sure, I've felt a funny glance from time to time if I'm wearing something a little unusual.  But then again, who am I to think that anyone really cares?  Maybe that funny little glance wasn't directed at me at all.  Maybe it wasn't a funny little glance at all and just somone's funny-looking face.  And what's the difference between someone having an opinion about my out-of-the-box wardrobe choice and me scoffing at the HUNDREDS of legging-sweatshirt-ugg/flipflop/topsider combinations that rule this town?  I'd rather look like this patriotic explosion than be sporting my pajama bottoms all day.

Okay, that got a little ranty, but my point is simple.  If not here, then where?  This small town is where I live.  This is where I work.  This is a part of me.  What a shame it would be to save all my fashion experiments for the few times a year I'm in a city, where at the end of the day, I would only be blending in.  Where's the fun in that?

So, do you push the boundaries in your daily life?  Do you dress with no fear?  Or do you prefer to play it safe on your home turf and play someone else when you're out of town?

Geography vs. Personal Style.  What do you think?

And since that was a little heavy for a Friday, here's a little something fun.

I call it the leash dance:

*I really must stop taking pictures at the end of the day.  Exhaustion does not bode well on my photo attempts.*
