sweaty wednesday: a place to be me

First, thank you all so much for your awesome comments on Monday's post!  You were all so encouraging and helpful!  I loved hearing from all the derby girls out there!

I can't believe I didn't find roller derby sooner.  It's the perfect combination of two of my favorite things: athleticism (specifically, female athleticism) and sartorial expression!

So far, I'm loving leotards with a pair of fun shorts or a skirt.  It must be the old dancer/cheerleader in me.  It's by far my most comfortable combination, both physically and mentally.  I'm having fun with colors and crazy patterns.  Oh, and knee socks - can't forget the knee socks!

I don't have skates, yet, so you get the bum up photos.  The only other things missing are my knee pads and mouth guard.  Since I wasn't sure I was going to make the team, I bought some incredibly cheap gear, figuring I would upgrade when needed.  I can't WAIT to get the new pads I ordered!  Trust me when I say they kick some serious ass!

Traditionally, a lot of derby girls skate in fishnets and tights.  I haven't quite wrapped my head around that.  We all know that I've been shirking the tights since February, so the idea of putting them on in 70+ degree weather and then sweating?!  No, thank you.  Maybe I'll give 'em a whirl sometime in the future, but for now, I'll wear my white, veiny legs with pride.  Cellulite and all.
